Obama on Egypt : Silence is more than just a lack of words

President Obama has been choosing his words carefully regarding the trouble in Egypt. He is in a difficult position. On one hand, he may be happy to see the Muslim Brotherhood removed from power by a military coup. On the other hand, he is a defender of democracy.

Recalling his speech in Cairo to the Arab world, he tied US aid to Egypt to democratic procedures. Here, we are in a situation where a democratically elected President was ousted by force by the military. Obama’s attitude seems like silent approval of the military coup. As the Bedouin of Egypt say, “Silence is more than just a lack of words.”
