Mubarak abandoned by the West as he goes on trial: If you choose to make friendship with a pig, you must be prepared to live in the mud

The trial of Hosni Mubarak has began in Cairo. The former Egyptian leader is in a cage like a monkey. Mubarak is the latest former ally of the West to be abandoned after many years of serving the interests of peace. This trial is certainly a lesson to any world leaders who believe that they are immune and protected by the West.

For thirty years, Mubarak was seen as moderate, a man commited to peace. Words from the West are not enough to recognize the merits of Mubarak at the time he’s facing serious charges in his country. He should be given asylum in any country.

We see in the cage a sick and broken man. Words from Benjamin Natanyahu saying that he respects Mubarak are cheap. There are rumors of potential asylum in Israel or the United States. It is too late. Hosni Mubarak will never recover from this humiliating treatment.

The lesson that we are sending to world leaders who still serve the West is to learn from history: they will get the same treatment as Mubarak, Saddam Hussein, Noriega,¬† Ali Abdullah Saleh, Mobutu, and others. As the Hausa of Niger say, “If you choose to make friendship with a pig, you must be prepared to live in the mud.”
