Gay marriage rights won’t erase the stigma: Blind belief is dangerous

The great Satan (AKA the US, according to the extremists Muslims) has crossed the line. The New York gay marriage bill has passed. Being one of the most populous states in the US, New York matters and has the ability to inspire other states.

Giving gay couples legal rights for their partners is fine, but the right to marry is wrong. It sends the wrong message to future generations of kids: that they can just choose to marry a man or a woman. It’s not a matter of choice. It’s not the norm, nor should it be. I have heard gay rights activists comparing gay rights to the Black civil rights movement. It’s like comparing apples with plums.

Gay people in America are free to love who they want. We should be tolerant. But pushing their agenda too far will lead to a big mess in our society. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and all the supporters of gay rights should know that having the right to marry will not erase the stigma of being a different kind of couple. Gays and lesbians still have a long way to be accepted in our society. This is not the way. As the Luyia of Kenya say, “Blind belief is dangerous.”
