Depending on how you define the word “victory”, negotiating a peace deal with the Taliban can be an honorable way to exit from what is – for the US – a deep hole into which billions of dollars have been thrown (while American debt keeps increasing).
Afghanistan, without the Taliban, will never have peace. The question is, what type of role will the moderate Taliban play in Afghanistan? Afghanistan’s people should sit and find a way to build a strong nation on its diversity.
Maybe they will feel the urgency to do so when the last “occupier” leaves their land. Only Afghans can solve their differences, not foreigners. As the Bayaka of Congo say, “The key that unlocks is also the key that locks.”
