By using her veto to stop the “Birther bill” in Arizona, Governor Jan Brewer has distanced herself from the Birthers (people claiming Obama was not born in America and therefore not qualified to be president). Historians will remember this bill as a continuation of the struggle for racial equality in America.
Not only did Governor Jan Brewer save herself but she also saved the state of Arizona from being in the spotlight in a very negative way. Arizona is already known for its tough stand against immigration, especially Latinos. Hopefully, other states will not follow Arizona’s bad example.
It is wrong for State Representative Carl Seel hide behind the Constitution while targeting President Obama. Governor Jan Brewer has done the right thing. She has shown remarkable leadership. Otherwise, we would be saying, as the Bayombe of Congo say, “A wrong step by the leader is a warning for those following.”
