The failure of the Arab League, an organization created by Arab countries to solve their problems, is also at the root of the turmoil that the Arab world is going through right now.

An illustration of their failure is that they were “united” in asking the West to intervene in Libya but never themselves sent a single fighter jet to enforce the UN resolution. In fact, they are now critical of the US and its allies for doing more than what the UN resolution said: impose a no fly zone. The Arab league has failed to bring peace in Lebanon, failed in negotiating peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and has failed to resolve personal conflicts and interests between their leaders.

Their request to put the West in front shows their weakness. It also shows their inferiority complex vis a vis Westerners and puts them in the position of assistee. The savior of Kuwait against Saddam Hussein was the US. The League’s change of mind about Libya exposed their fear of their own people, who certainly question how the Arab League can incite “outsiders” to attack an Arab country. After the first bombings, the Arab League condemned the bombing in Libya. Hypocrisy or fear of judgement from their  own people? As the Ewe of Togo say, “A coward always hides behind someone else after he has thrown a stone.”
