President Obama’s approval rate went down from 55% to 50% according to the latest CNN polls. The president is losing the support of independent voters and low income men. Slowly but surely, hope is transforming to disillusionment.
While we all agree that the economy is hitting him badly, the president seems surprised by the reality of the presidency, shocked by the reality of Washington. Meanwhile, the little people who have seen in Obama a chance for a better life are discouraged. Every month there is bad news that affects the economy, and that chips away at that hope. The president is certainly hoping for a miracle before the next election.
If Obama’s supporters are turning their backs on him, he is in danger of becoming a king without a kingdom. The little people will judge the president based on how their lives have changed for the better since he was elected. If unemployment stays high and people are losing their homes, President Obama will have trouble being reelected. As the Ashanti of Ghana say, “The ruin of a nation begins in the homes of its people.”
