America loses last WWI veteran Frank Buckles: The death of an elderly man is like a burning library

America has lost its last World War I veteran. Not only did he serve in WWI, he also served in World War II and was a Japanese prisoner of war.

Frank Buckles died after his 110th birthday. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetary, but will not be honored in the US Capitol. Common sense should guide Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House John Boehner to honor a true hero.

Mr. Buckles was certainly a witness of history, a story teller. We are talking about the last living WWI veteran. Frank Buckles represented a living piece of American history. As the Akan of Ivory Coast say, “The death of an elderly man is like a burning library.”
