Westboro Baptist Church wins appeal: A person’s character is like pregnancy. It cannot be hidden.

The Westboro Baptist Church — the fundamentalist church known for its anti-gay protests outside military funerals — has won a Supreme Court appeal against a grieving father who lost his son, a Marine. It is a big victory. The US Supreme Court has ruled that the first amendment protects the church.

Regardless of the first amendment, it is wrong to speak on behalf of God and hate God’s creatures. If religion teaches compassion, then Reverend Fred Phelps and his followers are more a hate group than a church. Their actions speak loudly. Their church is more like a cult with an homophobic message. They do not have anything to do with God. As the Hausa of Niger say, “A person’s character is like pregnancy. It cannot be hidden.”
