Does Muammar Gaddafi suffer from Saddam Hussein‘s affliction: absolute power? Power is evil. Power can make you think that you are God. Power can make you think that you are immortal.
Muammar Gaddafi and his sons are deaf, out of touch with reality. President Obama has called on Colonel Gaddafi to step down now, and he’s not the first to have done so. Still, Gaddafi sees Al Qaeda behind the revolt in his country. The reality is that the Libyan dictator is a manipulator. He thinks that by blaming Ossama Bin Laden, he will get the sympathy of the nations involved in the war on terror. The irony is that Libya was, under Colonel Gaddafi, one of the states sponsoring terrorism.
The Colonel seems to be losing his mind. Despite the fall of towns now under rebel hands, he still believes that he is in control of his country. Colonel Gaddafi is stubborn. Three scenarios are possible: Gaddafi will be killed, captured, or he will escape and find refuge in one of the countries hostile to the West (such as Iran, Venezuela, or Syria). As the Bambara of Mali say, “A deaf man may not have heard the thunder, but he surely will see the rain.”
