US and Israel shouldn’t worry about a new Egyptian government: If you keep your head and heart going in the right direction, you don’t have to worry about your feet

It is true, it is better to deal with the devil you know than the one you don’t. Egypt’s troubles do not affect only the US but the whole Middle East. Israel signed a peace treaty with Egypt. Nobody knows if the Muslim extremists will take over Egypt, and if so, what type of relations the future Egyptian administration will have with the US and Israel. We have already seen some isolated cases during the protests of signs denouncing US hypocrisy.

Any new government after Mubarak will have to think twice before breaking their relations with the US and Israel. The US gives $1.5 billion of foreign aid to Egypt. Instead of worrying too much, the US and Israel should keep a positive attitute. Egypt needs them for their stability and development. As the Xhosa of South Africa say, “If you keep your head and heart going in the right direction, you don’t have to worry about your feet.”
