Obama positions himself as centrist: A chief of the village never sees the devil

In his State of the Union address, President Obama once again has sent a message of hope to the American people. The mood in the room was somber. The apparent unity of all political parties was clearly due to the latest tragedy in Tucson. The novelty this year was that the Republican party and the Tea Party have their own responses to the President’s message.

The President, known for his rhetoric, was very sober with his words. He avoided issues such as gun control in America or the lack of civility in American politics. He positioned himself as centrist. As the Bakuni of Congo say, “A chief of the village never sees the devil.”
