The people of America are still sleeping under a stone. Americans are very emotional over the Tucson shooting, but the reality is that America is a violent society. The debate about guns comes back often after a tragedy such as Colombine, Virginia Tech, and now Tucson. However, America is infested with guns and there is no cure to the problem. Any attempt at a tough law is countered by the powerful NRA lobbyists.

Two months from now, this tragedy will be history. As time passes and we get closer to the Presidential elections, election fever will mount and the passion will increase the virulence of rhetoric. I do not believe that Americans will learn a lesson from this tragedy. It is a custom because violence is almost a banality. As the Berber of Algeria say, “Mankind is made out of forgetfulness.”
