The death of high profile diplomat Richard Holbrooke is big news. Some faces symbolize America internationally. Richard was one of those faces. Holbrooke achieved a lot for peace in Kosovo and was very critical of Hamid Karzai’s government involvement in corruption. Holbrooke and Karzai did not like each other very much.

For sure, he served his country with great honor. Death is always sad news. The man will be remembered also for his frank talk. It is a big loss for American diplomacy. Unfortunately, death is for everybody, rich or poor. When it is time to go, there is no alarm. Unfortunately, before the man is even buried, the main news is already about who is going to replace him. As the Bedouin of Egypt say, “Death is a black camel that lies down at every door. Sooner or later you must ride the camel.”
