Bill Clinton, the former US president, has been visible lately, giving advice to President Obama about how to deal with the Republican party.
For those who follow US politics, Obama’s presidency resembles Clinton’s presidency in many ways. They both have faced a block of obstructionism as the strategy from the GOP. But, Obama has an advantage: to learn from Clinton’s presidency.
Unfortunately, Americans have a very selective memory. We all know that when President Bush was elected, the country had a surplus. Eight years later, the country is in the hole due to Bush’s spending.
Punishing the Democrats for the Republican’s mess is unfair. It’s up to President Obama to learn a lesson from one of the most successful presidents, Clinton. As the Bamileke of Cameroon say, “Ears that do not listen to advice, accompany the head when it is chopped off.”
