An Iranian newspaper has launched a series of attacks against the French first lady Carla Bruni for her involvement in the case of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, an Iranian woman found guilty of adultery and sentenced to death by stoning. The paper has called Bruni a prostitute for her wild lifestyle and involvement with high profile lovers before marrying the French president.

The French authorities have judged it as “unacceptable” and have called on the European Union for more sanctions against Iran. Carla Bruni is a controversial and a provocative figure. Her past is the subject of fascination for many and also disgusting to those who believe in monogamy. As usual, women are judged more harshly than men. As the Duala of Cameroon say, “The folly of a man is not broadcast like that of a woman.
