Hamas doesn’t get it: Do not try to fight a lion if you are not one yourself

Peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians have started in Washington. Like always, when both sides meet for talks, the extremists of both sides do everything to stop the progress. Yitzhak Rabin was killed by Jewish extremists. Anwar El Sadat of Egypt paid the price for making peace with Israel. Mahmoud Abbas is seen by Hamas as a traitor.

For many of us who wish for a better more peaceful world, we are keeping our fingers crossed that something concrete comes out from this negotiation after two years of deadlock. This conflict has cost many lives on both sides. It will not be an easy road.

Hamas already show its face by killing four people in Israel a few days ago. If Israel loses its temper, and falls to these provocations, it will retaliate strongly. We all know that Israel is militarily stronger than Hamas. It seems that Hamas did not learn the lessons of the last Israeli incursion in Gaza.

Let’s keep hoping that PM Netanyahu and President Abbas will be determined to make peace. Hamas and its leadership does not get it. As the Kikuyu of Kenya say, “Do not try to fight a lion if you are not one yourself.”
