Ken Mehlman, one of the artisans of the George W. Bush reelection in 2006, has “liberated” himself and come out as a gay man. The former RNC leader was known for being a strong supporter of anti-gay positions within their political party. It must be hard to be in his shoes, faking his sexual orientation and being surrounded by conservatives.

For those who follow American politics, during the George W. Bush era, rumors about his sexuality were spread and he strongly denied it. How is it possible to be gay and conservative, considering their constant rhetoric against homosexuality? How much we should trust politicians? What they say publically is not necessarily who they are and what they believe. Mr. Mehlman was against same sex marriage as President George W. Bush campaign manager, and now he has “changed” his mind.

It must be tough for high profile figures to publically talk about their sexual orientation. I do remember the Jim McGreevey case, the former New Jersey governor, “happily” married to a woman until he came out as gay. There is nothing wrong with gays. The question is, how did they not know it before? Were they fighting it? Who is next?

For sure Ken Mehlman is at peace now. As the Oromo of Ethiopia say, “There is no cure for him who hides an illness.”
