$600M bill to secure US-Mexico border passes: It’s the tortoise’s shell, ugly and hard that protects its life long journey on earth

It is very rare to see Democrats and Republicans agree on the same thing. US lawmakers have passed an emergency fund of $600 million to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

Facing the epidemic of each state wanting to find its own solution to illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and violence — where the federal government has failed — lawmakers of both parties are trying to save face. They are trying to show to the American people that something is being done.

The truth is that $600 million is a drop of water in the ocean compared to the billions of dollars spent on unwinnable wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The border’s total length is 1,969 miles. Hiring 1500 new law enforcement agents and equipment, compared to the massive number of people wanting to cross the border, is insignificant.

America must know that to be a sovereign country, it must protect its borders. As the Tuareg of Mali say, “It’s the tortoise’s shell, ugly and hard that protects its life long journey on earth.”
