The annulment of Haiti’s debt by the IMF (International Monetary Fund) is certainly welcome news for the government of President Rene Preval. The country is still recovering from the earthquake that killed thousands of people.
Good news is needed to give hope to the brave people of Haiti who have more challenges ahead. The reconstruction is slow, the funds alleged by international donors for reconstruction is not coming fast enough to the frustration of those who are homeless.
Good news means hope for a better future. As the Indian of South Africa say, “The worst kind of poverty is to have many debts.”
