Where has the GOP been lately? Strangely, the GOP has been quiet about the BP oil spill. Have they come to the realization that obstructionism is not winning the hearts of the American people?
Perhaps, some of it is that American politics are so tied to corporations, which leaves them powerless when a disaster like this happens. President Obama himself had received compaign contributions from BP. Some people suspect that his slow reaction to the BP oil spill was related to that.
The GOP House leaders released a statement about the BP oil spill, but — knowing the virulence of their words in the past — the statement was not close to their obstructionist policies since Obama was elected.
Maybe I am wrong. More battles are coming, such as the Kagan Supreme Court nomination hearings in the Senate. With the GOP, you never know for sure what’s next. As the Kikuyu of Kenya say, “When a cricket is quiet, it is digging.”
