Obama and BP Fix it Together or Fail Together: “If you have a poor father, that is destiny; if you have a poor father-in-law, that is your mistake.

President Obama is travelling again to the Gulf states affected by the BP oil spill. Surely, this disaster is getting the full attention of the White House. This may be what historians remember of Obama’s presidency. The more time passes, the more BP’s failure is Obama’s failure.

The president has been under a lot of criticism, both in the US and Great Britain: on one hand from the US for not being enough of “an angry Black man,” and at the same time from the British for being too harsh with BP.

It is clear that President Obama is not sleeping on his watch. The nation’s ears and eyes will be open to listen to the answers of the President on Tuesday night. He will come up with a solution or pay the price. At this point BP and Obama have the same destiny: they fix the problem together or they fail together.

This accident was not the president’s choice but if he does not do anything about it, he will be blamed for it. As the Akan of Ivory Coast say, “If you have a poor father, that is destiny; if you have a poor father-in-law, that is your mistake.”
