The US congress has angered its close ally over a vote that defined the mass killings of Armenians by the Turks during the first world war as genocide. While, the “Empire” is struggling with economic bad news and two wars, that is the last thing that the US congress should focus on.

Turkey has been an important NATO ally to the US and facilitator to the US war in Iraq. Sometimes, I wonder if Americans live on another planet. Turkey is a catalyst between the West and the Muslim world. The reactions in Turkey were swift — the Turkish government has called its ambassador for consultation.

It does not make sense to find the right word for a killing that happened more than 90 years ago. Genocide or mass killing, it’s still a tragedy on which the world needs to turn the page. It is foolish to fuel the controversy, especially when we are talking about two sovereign countries.

By putting its nose in every matter that concerns the world, the US is making its task more difficult in that part of the world. As the Arab-Berbers of Morocco say, “The wound of words is worse than the wound of swords.”
