Finally, Jim Bunning‘s filibuster of a $10 billion package that extends benefits for unemployed workers and pays for road projects has ended in a deal with the Democrats.
He claims his concern is national debt and its legacy for future generations, but his Senate record has shown that he supported most of the Bush administration spending. When these extremists are exposed to the nation, they back off.
Pressure and exposure played an important role in changing his mind. Maybe that’s the way to go against cynic obstructionists. As the Bambara of Mali say, “An empty sack cannot stand.”
