Muslim-American groups are supporting a Fatwa (religious ruling) claiming that body scanning at airports violates Islamic law. This is ironic! Let’s face the truth: America is fighting a war against extremist Muslims. Body scanning may be sinful to the point of view of Muslims, but it also violates the privacy of Christians, Jews, Hindus, etc.
The United States is stuck in a very ambiguous position. It is not a secret that the enemy who wants to hurt America belongs to a known religion. At the same time, it is discriminatory to target a specific group of people.
If we all fight for equality in this country, body scanning should not be a subject of discussion. We live in a new world since the tragic terrorist attack in New York. To protect its people, America must make tough laws, laws that will not please everybody. It is unfortunate for good Muslims.
The body scanning does not target Islam or Muslims. As the Hausa of Cameroon say, “Even if you dance for your enemy on the rock, he will accuse you of splashing water on him.”
