Giuliani forgets terror under Bush: The eyes do not see what the mind does not want

Rudy Giuliani, the GOP ” leading expert” on terrorism and national security, seems to be making a lot of gaffes lately. Most notable is his claim that “We had no domestic terror attacks under Bush. We’ve had one under Obama” (referring to November’s shootings at Fort Hood).

The former New York mayor forgot 9/11 and Richard Reid the “shoe bomber”. It is unfortunate that the worst enemy of America is its own citizen. The GOP is like a cult, the party of “No”, no matter what. I don’t recall seeing in a civilized country — when it is a matter of national security — political parties being so divided.

The GOP and Giuliani have a short and selective memory, which is a dangerous strategy. The Obama administration should consider themselves very fortunate that Abdul Mutallab was unsuccessful. If he succeeded, the GOP would certainly celebrate that. It is unpatriotic to revel in the President’s — and the US’s — security challenges. It is not the President who will be hurt, but the people of the United States. As the Indians of South Africa say, “The eyes do not see what the mind does not want.”
