Napolitano out of touch like McCain was: Words are like the spider’s web: a shelter for the clever ones and a trap for the not-so-clever

The finger pointing after the failed terrorist attempt to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas Day continues. Some politicians are seeing this “failure” as an opportunity to score a political point. The American political class is very divided at exactly time they should not be. Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of Homeland Security is under a lot of criticism for claiming that “the system worked really smoothly.”

I have to say that her remark reminds me of  John McCain saying that “the fundamentals of our economy are still strong” at the time the country was sinking into a severe recession. I would not say that her remark was stupid, but out of touch with reality. Admitting a failure is better than underestimating the gravity of the failure.

Unfortunately, Janet Napolitano is not the only one in the administration avoiding tough questions. Honestly her remarks were simply bizarre. As the people of Madagascar say, “Words are like the spider’s web: a shelter for the clever ones and a trap for the not-so-clever.”
