Christmas is a time for sharing. In America, however, Christmas is an excuse for over-spending, especially in a society where the culture of spending is normal. The pressure to give even though some people have to put themselves in debt is great. Many forget that Christmas is a religious celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth, not a celebration of spending.

For those who have a lot, sharing is a good thing. For those who cannot afford expensive things, it is better to spend what they can afford. What matters is the gesture. Merry Christmas, America. As the Arabs of Morocco say, ” If you have much, give of your wealth; if you have little, give of your heart.”
