Christmas is a time for sharing. In America, however, Christmas is an excuse for over-spending, especially in a society where the culture of spending is normal. The pressure to give even though some people have to put themselves in debt is great. Many forget that Christmas is a religious celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth, not a celebration of spending.

For those who have a lot, sharing is a good thing. For those who cannot afford expensive things, it is better to spend what they can afford. What matters is the gesture. Merry Christmas, America.
