Richard and Mayumi Heene, the “balloon boy” parents, got jail time and 4 years probation. The judge also prohibited them from receiving any form of financial benefit, whether through the media, a book, or articles they might write about the balloon hoax.

Their story made headlines all around the world. Obsession for fame and greed can push people to be “creative” in a very negative way. What lessons has this couple taught their kids? How will the family  overcome such a humiliating experience?

For sure Richard Heene will be a synonym for “hoax”. Four years from now, the sadly famous Richard Heene, apparently the instigator of the hoax, will still sell his story and make money. But, as the Kaondes of Zambia say, “A dog which steals leaves its puppies a bad name.”
