President Obama welcomed Indian leader Singh to the White House on Tuesday in what is the first state visit of his presidency. The US is friends with both India and Pakistan, two enemy brothers. In their speeches, both leaders seemed to choose carefully their words.
India is a rising power, an economic partner to the US. Sometimes I wonder what the Indians think when all the attention is turned toward their visceral enemy (Pakistan). America cannot afford to ignore India in its fight against terror. Indian certainly can help by sharing intelligence, themselves being victims of terror.
A state dinner to honor Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is certainly a good sign that the US does not favor Pakistan over India. As the Baluba of Congo say, “When the bee comes to your house, let her have beer; you may want to visit the bee’s house some day.”
