President Obama is considering four options for realigning U.S. strategy in Afghanistan. The decision is a tough one.

Despite the call to send more troops by the Republican leaders, who think that the president is too slow in responding to his Generals request, the president should be cautious. For eight years the US Army has not achieved its mission. Following what Dick Cheney or John McCain believe is the right thing to do without any specific strategy is a recipe for another failure. Even General Colin Powell, who has military experience, advised the president to take his time. As the Peul of Guinea say, “The fly that has no one to advise it follows the corpse into the grave.”
