Better a single decision-maker than a thousand advisers.

President Obama‘s mind is torn right now between following his top military commander’s recommendations for more troops in Afghanistan or following some of his advisers who oppose adding more troops in Afghanistan. Rumors are saying that the president’s own advisers are divided: some are for more troops in Afghanistan, others against.

Going either way will make one group unhappy. I feel for the president. He must get this right. But how? Either a good or bad decision will become his legacy. No matter what, he has the last word as Commander in Chief. As the Yoruba of Nigeria say, “Better a single decision-maker than a thousand advisers.”
