It is difficult to ignore the furor over health care reform in the US. America agrees that its health care system is broken, but the American people disagree about how to reform it. There is one America as a nation but two Americas in reality: the poor and the rich.

Some Americans believe that they have the best health care in the world. However, that doesn’t make any sense when you think about life expectancy in the US, which is behind some industrialized countries.  People who have never left their own backyard cannot compare their system to that of other countries. By resisting change, America will soon or later increase the number of uninsured.

For sure the furor is fueled by Fox News and conservative radio hosts such as Rush Limbaugh. Despite the protests, the machine of health care is rolling. The conservatives and their supporters have little chance to block health care reform. As the Zaghawa of Chad say, “When the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”
