Health care reform efforts by the White House are under a firestorm of criticism from the GOP.

In reality, this is a war between rich and poor. The more fortunate people are, the more they are likely to not support health care reform. The Republicans are talking openly of their desire to stop health care reform as way to break the Obama presidency. We all know that words are cheap. Mathematically, they don’t have the votes to stop this reform. Imagine if the Republicans were in the position of Democrats right now, having 60 votes in theĀ  Senate. We wouldn’t be debating any of their programs.

This matter shows how less aggressive the Democrats are. The general impression is that the GOP is dictating the tone to the majority party. Also, it shows the disconnect between politics and the people. Health care is related to the economy. Fixing health care will definitely have an impact on the economy. The less people pay for their health care, the less likely they are to file for bankruptcy.

America has been waiting for this change for a long time. The Democrats need to remember that all attempts at bipartisan work have failed since the beginning of this administration. What else should they expect from the GOP? Nothing except non-constructive criticism. Democrats command the votes needed to pass a sweeping health care bill through the House. Political plays by Newt Gingrich and other GOP leaders such as Michael Steele will only distract the Democrats. As the Indians of South Africa say, “The man who has mounted an elephant will not fear the bark of a dog.”
