CIA director Leon Panetta says it’s almost as if former vice president Dick Cheney would like to see another attack on the United States to prove that he is right in criticizing the Obama administration for abandoning the harsh interrogation of terrorism suspects. It is not shocking news. Rush Limbaugh, a dear friend of Dick Cheney, already wished the Obama administration to fail. Cheney is guilty by association.
There is no way that the U.S. will be 100% secure from an attack. The danger is greater now because of what the Bush administration has done in the past. Americans are more likely to be targeted outside the U.S. than 10 or 15 years ago because of the Bush regime. Dick Cheney’s mind is not about the safety of the American people — it’s more about seeing his political opponents fail to come back in power.
The US image is still bad in the Arab world. Definitely, if Dick Cheney’s wishes are fulfilled, it will be the fruit of the harvest. As the Indians of South Africa say, “If you throw a handful of stones, one at least will hit.”
