The death of George Tiller, a controversial doctor from Kansas who specialized in late-term abortions, is certainly one of the most shocking news stories today. The shock is how he was killed, where he was killed, and by who.

Doctor Tiller was a target of pro-life supporters in the past, so it is not a big surprise that they finally succeeded. But, killing him while attending a church service showed that he believed in God — and certainly expected to be judged by God, not by pro-life people. How can we comprehend that for those who claim to be pro-life, it is okay to murder?

Nobody can speak or act on behalf of God. The killing of Dr Tiller was unnecessary. As the Bambara of Mali say, “Do not walk in God’s ways on someone else’s behalf.”
