It is better to be loved than feared.

The Republican party has started the National Council for America, a series of town hall meetings across the US. This initiative shows clearly how serious things are for the GOP. Their goal is to reshape the image of their party: to listen to their base and change the direction of their party.

The GOP is out of breath. Not only have their ideas not changed, but the GOP seems to be having trouble finding their identity. The old guard such as Dick Cheney are having a hard time accepting that their time is over. Cheney’s latest interviews won’t help to improve the GOP image.

The future belongs to the new generation. To appeal to people of different backgrounds, races, genders… the new generation must change the image of the party of extremes and exclusion. As the Wolof of Senegal say, “It is better to be loved than feared.”
