The presidential election in South Africa is over. The ANC won. Jacob Zuma is going to be sworn in as 4th post-apartheid President of South Africa. Jacob Zuma is one of the most controversial political leaders of South Africa, accused of corruption, raping his friend’s daughter, and denying the existence of AIDS.
Zuma is a self-made man who fought apartheid along Nelson Mandela, Mbeki, and Walter Sisulu. Clearly, the choice of Zuma as president is not based on his ideas, but based on his skin color and his tribe. He is the first Zulu president. It is very disappointing to know that one of the greatest men of the 21st century, Nelson Mandela, endorsed a rapist.
This type election is shameful for South Africa. Implicitly the people of South Africa have endorsed bad behavior even though Mr. Zuma believes that these accusations were politically motivated. His integrity is on the line. As the Peuls of Mali say, “Where there is no shame, there is no honor.”
