Silvio Berlusconi, the controversial Italian prime minister, has caused outrage by refusing help from other European countries after a powerful earthquake hit central Italy and for making a disrespectful comment about the thousands of survivors, living in shelters, to pretend they are on a camping weekend. The reality is that people living in the shelters don’t have basic conditions of living. The shelters are overcrowded. I am not sure if it is arrogance or he is ashamed to seek help in a tragic moment. As the Teke of Congo say, “He who is too sure of himself and acts without thinking is heading for his downfall.”
