Pakistan and Afghanistan are the biggest challenges that the US faces in its fight against terror. The war is certainly winnable if the Pakistani government is sincere in fighting what seems to be their fight as well.

No doubt Pakistan is fighting terror for its own survival. Therefore they have to do it for themselves. After getting billions of dollars from the Bush administration, not much was achieved by the Pakistani government. The general impression is that the Pakistanis are being paid to fight terror on behalf of the Americans.

In reality, the government of Pakistan must contribute resources to not let the country fall into the hands of the extremists. The general impression of the Pakistani government is that they are doing “enough,” but the reality is that suicide bombs are frequent through the country. The question is, how are they fighting terrorism? Clearly their strategy is not working. As the Tuaregs of Niger say, “Fishing without a net is just bathing.”
