President Obama‘s comment on the Tonight Show about the Special Olympics was certainly a mistake, a mistake that he apologized for. Of course, this type of “faux pas” was an opportunity for Governor Sarah Palin to make a statement on behalf of special needs people. What is ironic about it is that she is being hammered in her own state for refusing a portion of the stimulus fund destined for education and health care programs crucial to special kids in need .

Yes, the joke was spontaneous and in bad taste. It was hurtful not only for the Special Olympics but for all of us who support and volunteer for the Olympics. Next time, the President should be a little more careful, because he’s the President of the country. At one point the President must understand that overexposure to the media will hurt him. He couldn’t take back his words. As the Balumbu of Congo say, “Scandal is like an egg; when it is hatched it has wings.”
