The debate about the economic stimulus package proposed by President Obama is still going on. After the GOP’s zero votes in the House of Representatives, all scenarios are still possible in the Senate. The Democrats need at least two votes from the GOP in order to pass the bill. The GOP is still giving the same argument: the bill is enormous and they want to limit government spending. The war of words is still going on.

The moderate Republican supporters of the bill are certainly working under intense pressure from their colleagues. No matter what they have endured, two to three years from now, many people will say they were right for stepping up against obstructionism. They understand that time is running out and this is not a time for politics. As the Kikuyu of Kenya say, “On bath day, there is no point in hiding the belly button.”
