What is going on in Zimbabwe right now is a pure nightmare for the world community. The ex-British colony is ruled by a 84-year-old man, one of the most brutal dictators of our century: Robert Mugabe.

Since the country’s independence from Great Britain, the country has been ruled by a policy of racism and tribalism. The White minority has been a victim of all kinds of violence and many have been forced to flee the country. The Black majority is living in poverty and millions are choosing exile in neighboring countries.

Robert Mugabe blames his failure in leadership on the shadow of Great Britain. Mugabe’s failure is also an illustration of the inability of African leaders to take their own destiny in their hands. Others, like Mugabe, seem not to learn lessons about how other dictators come to an end.

I don’t know how the mind of a 84 year old works. By ignoring the suffering of his own people and defying the world community, it is clear that he’s surrounded by bad advisers. He can’t keep blaming the British. As the Sotho of Lesotho say, “Nobody wages war with ghosts.”
