If God is watching California right now, he should be cursing the Mormon church.
I was homophobic while living in Paris. Sometimes on Friday nights, I used to do what we called “Paris by night” — I used to drive to Pigalle, one of the hottest neighborhood of Paris, to see what this “phenomena” of gays and lesbians was all about. I saw it as evil and difficult to understand back then. Years later, I became more tolerant and asked myself “who I am to define the word marriage?” I learned to accept and respect people’s right to peace and happiness.
I do not believe that God gave the Mormon church a mandate to fight homosexuality. The Mormon church should “wash” their own sins first before trying to teach society what is wrong or right. Using money to overturn gay marriage will not change people’s sexuality. Let them be. As the Ashanti of Ghana say, “Rain beats a leopard’s skin, but it does not wash out the spots.”
