If you strongly believe in equality, you shouldn’t be worried about the color of skin of the new President of the United States. If Barack Obama is elected to the White House it will not be by affirmative action but based on his vision about what matter the most for the American people.

Blacks are still “chained” by invisible chains. Definitely, electing Barack Obama will be good for their spirit and self-esteem. Still America has a long way to improve race relations. Yes, Blacks are voting in record number, something that I have never seen since I have lived in America. Electing a man of color to the White House will be a psychological liberation for not only Black Americans but all the minorities in the US and all the minorities all around the world.

On one hand, I do understand the panic of the chairman by the high turnout to vote among Blacks. On the other hand, the Republican party is used to not being worried or frightened by Black votes because they never vote en masse in any election.

The history of Black American reminds me a lot of the history of the Jewish people. There are a lot of similarities. They both went from slavery to persecution or apartheid. But there is always hope to overcome difficulties. As the Fon of Benin say, “As long as the head is not cut off, it has the hope of carrying a hat.”
